Books & Book Chapters
Academic Writing & APA Style Guide – all sections
Authored books, edited books, and chapters within them each have a slightly different template.
Authored book
Template:Author, A. A. (Year). Title of book (edition, if not the first). Publisher.
Example:Kotler, P., Armstrong, G., & Opresnik, M. O. (2018). Principles of marketing (17th ed.). Pearson.
In text:(Kotler et al., 2018) / Kotler et al. (2018)
Edited book (citing the whole volume)
Template:Editor, E. E. (Ed.). (Year). Title of book (edition). Publisher.
Example:Kaufman, J. C., Glăveanu, V. P., & Baer, J. (Eds.). (2017). The Cambridge handbook of creativity across domains. Cambridge University Press.
In text:(Kaufman et al., 2017) / Kaufman et al. (2017)
Chapter in an edited book
Template:Author, A. A. (Year). Title of chapter. In E. E. Editor (Ed.), Title of book (pp. xx–xx). Publisher.
Example:Aron, L., Botella, M., & Lubart, T. (2019). Culinary arts and cooking science. In J. C. Kaufman, V. P. Glăveanu, & J. Baer (Eds.), The Cambridge handbook of creativity across domains (pp. 345–359). Cambridge University Press.
In text:(Aron et al., 2019) / Aron et al. (2019)
Chapter in an authored book (same author for the chapter and the book)
Template:Author, A. A. (Year). Title of chapter. In Title of book (pp. xx–xx). Publisher.
Note: Used less often than the templates above — most EBS students citing a chapter are citing one from an edited book.
