Language requirements

An exchange student should be able to participate actively in the studies of the foreign university. Different lectures in English are offered in most European universities, so it is mostly not necessary to know the local language to participate in studies. Nevertheless, please always check if additional language knowledge is needed.

The required level of English for an EBS student is at least B2. Please note that some of our partner universities have the minimum language level C1. That means that you need a proof for that level once you make the application in their system.

With your application please also send in your English language test certificate (one of them).

– TOEFL iBT score 85 (for exams taken before January 21, 2026) or 4.5 (for exams taken after January 21, 2026). Please note that the TOEFL test result is valid for 2 years.

– IELTS Academic 6.0 (with at least 5.5 in each component). Please note that the IELTS test result is valid for 2 years.

– Cambridge test CEFR level B2

– Duolingo test (min score 110)

– EBS language certificate stating the CEFR minimum level of B2 (ask your English lecturer or EBS Language Centre). Grade in English is at least C.
