4. Organisation of studies
↑4.1 The nominal study plan is a document that establishes the total volume of studies in terms of duration and structure and distributes the courses set forth by the curriculum across semesters. Students and external students should follow the nominal study plan.
4.2 Students must comply with the curriculum requirements and complete the compulsory and elective courses established therein in accordance with either a nominal or an individual study plan. To register for a thesis or final examination, a student must have completed the curriculum in full either by the time of registration or by the end of the same semester in which the thesis or final examination takes place. A student may register for a thesis or final examination only if all compulsory and elective courses prescribed by the curriculum have been completed or will be completed during that semester.
4.3 A student or external student has the right to draw up an individual study plan by registering for courses that differ from nominal study plan. The student’s or the external student’s tuition fee is based on the enrolled courses for a semester and must be paid by the same deadline as the standard tuition fee. When registering for a thesis or final examination, students and external students must meet the graduation requirements by the deadline specified in the graduation schedule for the relevant semester. They cannot register for courses that will not be completed by the deadline for meeting the graduation requirements.
4.4 A learner registers for courses on the MyEBS platform. A learner may not register for courses at a higher study level. The learner gets access to the registered courses on the Canvas e-learning platform no later than one week before the start of the semester.
4.5 The Office of Academic Affairs draws up the timetable for each semester on the basis of the nominal study plan. The timetable is published on the MyEBS platform by the beginning of course registration for the respective semester. EBS reserves the right to change single courses and their volume or timeline.
4.6 The list of compulsory, elective, and optional courses for a particular semester is published immediately before the start of the course registration period. Registration for elective and optional courses takes place together with registration for compulsory courses.
4.7 A student has the right to register for the same elective or optional course multiple times; however, only one completion will be counted toward the fulfilment of the curriculum requirements.
4.8 If the number of participants registered for an elective or optional course is below the established minimum, EBS has the right to cancel the course.
4.9 A learner has the right to drop enrolled courses within five weeks of the start of the semester in accordance with the terms and conditions for waiving a study service.
4.10 Optional, elective, and compulsory courses can also be chosen from other institutions of higher education. In the case of elective, optional or compulsory courses, the student must have the approval of the Head of the Office of Academic Affairs. For guest studies, students must register with their study consultant at the Office of Academic Affairs and the institution of higher education where the studies are going to take place. The assessment record is issued, and the Office of Academic Affairs records the result. Assessment shall be based on the grading scale of the host higher education institution. In case the grading scale does not correspond to the grading scale of the Estonian national grading scale system and the grading systems are not comparable; the Office of Academic Affairs shall convert the result to the grading scale of the national grading system or transfer the grade using pass/fail assessment.
4.11 Guest students must follow the rules of the receiving institute of higher education.
4.12 During their studies, a student may study at a foreign higher education institution or complete an international internship.
4.13 During the study-abroad semester (the so-called mobility window), the student is required to complete courses for the fulfilment of the curriculum requirements in accordance with the nominal study load of the curriculum, with a minimum of 15 ECTS credits per semester. Before registering for courses at the host institution, the student must coordinate the selected courses at the foreign higher education institution with their study consultant.
4.14 A student who studies at a foreign higher education institution receives an extension of the nominal period of study if at least 15 ECTS credits completed at the foreign institution count towards the fulfilment of the student’ s curriculum per semester.
4.15 A student, except for a third-cycle higher education student, is required to complete examinations and pass/fail assessments in the agreed curriculum courses corresponding to the period spent at the foreign university, with a minimum of 3 ECTS credits per semester, if the student has received a scholarship for studying abroad through the university. Otherwise, the scholarship must be repaid.
4.16 The student shall submit documents confirming the completion of the agreed courses to the Office of Academic Affairs, and the university has the right to require translations thereof into English.
4.17 A student who has received a scholarship for studying abroad through the university, has to comply with the terms of the grant agreement. Otherwise, the university has the right to restrict the student’s participation in studies.
