Application process
The deadline to apply to study abroad on the academic year 2026/2027 is 1st of March 2026.
Steps to take for application
1. Choose three universities you wish to apply for
Please choose three different universities for your application (students do not contact partner universities themselves).
2. When going abroad to study, you must consider the following requirements
If you are a Bachelor’s student:
– make sure you have no tuition fee debts
– your grade point average is not lower than 3.00
– your English language skills are on the level of B2 (CEFR)
– before going to study abroad, you will have to have studied at EBS for at least one year
If you are a Master’s student:
– make sure you have no study debts
– your grade point average is not lower than 3.00
– your English language skills are on the level of B2 (CEFR)
– before going to study abroad, you will have to have studied at EBS for at least one semester
3. Fill in an exchange application
Be ready to attach a Letter of Motivation (one A4) in English and your English language test certificate (specified below). Letter of Motivation is for EBS not for receiving institution. NB! If you have any trouble with uploading a file to the application, please email exchangeestudies@ebs.ee.
Instructions for Letter of Motivation:
Motivation Letter is a text (around one 4A) which carries a title „How have I enriched the learning experience of the fellow students and what will my experience abroad give to others?“
In the text you should open up on your contribution to EBS in the past and future, once you return from your exchange semester(s). It shouldn’t be too formal nor too “full of big words”. We wish to see authentic and concrete motivation and your value to the Erasmus+ programme. Beside text you need to have a referral from one fellow student and one lecturer who can vouch for the written text and even contribute to your achievements and character (please note that just names are enough and if needed, we will contact said persons).
It is strictly forbidden to use AI for the motivation letter and using it will result in automatic 0 for the whole category.
You can receive up to 5 points for the letter. Points breakdown:
+1 if there are both student and lecturer referrals
+1 if the motivation letter is fully written by yourself (no AI)
+3 will be the content of the text and how well the question in title is answered
So, for example:
– a student who has written a text themselves, has two referrals and wrote a decent motivation letter, will receive 1+1+2 points
– a student who has written a text with AI, has two referrals and an okay motivation letter, will receive 0 points
Accepted English language certificates:
– TOEFL iBT score 85 (for exams taken before January 21, 2026) or 4.5 (for exams taken after January 21, 2026). Please note that the TOEFL test result is valid for 2 years.
– IELTS Academic 6.0 (with at least 5.5 in each component). Please note that the IELTS test result is valid for 2 years.
– Cambridge test CEFR level B2
– Duolingo test (min score 110)
– EBS language certificate stating the CEFR minimum level of B2 (ask your English lecturer or EBS Language Centre). Grade in English is at least C.
If you have all your documents ready and are sure about your eligibility to apply for exchange studies, make the application:
You will be notified about the decision within two weeks from the deadline. Since the number of vacancies for each university is limited, students’ other choices regarding universities are also considered. Please also see the section “Scholarship criteria”.
If you would wish to apply to one university for Autumn semester and to another university for Spring semester, please submit two separate applications.
4. Familiarize yourself with the requirements of admission in the partner university
Initial information about partner university’s requirements are available on the homepage of the partner university. For example, several partner universities have higher language requirements or they accept only common English proficiency tests like IELTS and TOEFL. They might also ask transcript of records. Make sure you have necessary documents ready.
Once you are accepted by EBS
Once you have been offered a spot by EBS and you have confirmed your participation, EBS will nominate you to the partner university. Essentially that means we will let partner know you are our student and we approve of your exchange. After that you need to send in an application to the chosen university yourself, comes step 5.
5. Apply for an exchange semester/year through chosen university’s system.
Universities’ admission requirements vary greatly. In addition to the application, universities may also require a transcript of records, a note proving your language skills, study plan, health insurance, a financial guarantee bill, etc. Along with admission documents, you will also receive information on other documentation which is required by the country (visa, residence permit, health insurance).
Please keep to the deadline for handing in the documents – the deadlines may vary greatly depending on the educational system of the country. If you hand the documents in later, your application may be turned down and EBS has to cancel your mobility.
6. Let your Erasmus+ coordinator know you have received a spot.
Once you have applied and gotten a positive answer in the form of Acceptance Letter (it can be in the form of an email or a file), Erasmus+ coordinator will add you to a Canvas course where the next steps are described and outlaid.
