Sustainability during exchange studies

Moving to a new place brings with it a lot of extra costs and frustration in how to find suitable things fast and cheap. You are also more inclined to be lazy and go with comfort by ordering taxies and take-aways. However, all those things are not usually sustainable and add extra stress to our planet’s health.

Check out Green Erasmus to learn about different topics and see how you can improve your own habits.

We also have a couple of more concrete things to take into consideration and see if you could apply them right away.

Travelling sustainably

As Estonia is quite on the edge of Europe, it’s harder to get to your exchange destination especially if it is on the other side of Europe. Extra time and finances go into it and it’s not always feasible and we understand that. But have you even thought about the possibility and how Erasmus+ can support it?

Part of Erasmus+ scholarship is travelling and if you do it in a green manner, you receive higher support.

How to use green travelling?

– bus

– train

– carpooling

You need to travel at least 51% of the journey in that manner. For example you need to get from Tallinn to Lisbon. You’ll fly from Tallinn to Warsaw and take buses and trains to Lisbon from there. You’ll also come back to Tallinn the same way. Every bit helps and you will receive extra support.

To be eligible for green travelling, you need to notify Erasmus+ Project Manager, fill out a Declaration of Honor (DOH) and depending on the method used, also tickets.

Sustainability Guide

We have put together a quick and easy guide with tangible things that will help you lessen your footprint while you are spending your time abroad.

Being conscious of your actions and habits and changing them whenever possible is already good. Don’t chase an ideal situation but do what you can and through that you have done enough already.
