Preventing an infection

DEAR STUDENT

Due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, we kindly ask you to take great care in following the preventative methods of the infection to spread. Please read below and follow the information provided by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Estonia and the World Health Organisation.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends avoiding travel to areas of high risk of coronavirus: People’s Republic of China, Italy, Iran and South Korea. It is also advised to avoid travelling to Singapore, Japan, Alsace region in France and Nordrhein-Westphalen state in Germany. Please assess the need for any and all foreign travel and it should be borne in mind that the current quarantine zone in Italy may geographically expand and that further and more restrictive measures may be implemented.

If you have recently travelled to any area of risk of coronavirus,  please stay at home for at least 14 days after returning from the trip. Keep an eye on your health and contact your GP or doctor immediately in case of fever, cough or respiratory problems. Please inform your lecturers of skipping the lectures.

Please also keep in mind:

  • Please wash your hands regularly with soap and warm water and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer in public places. Use a paper tissue or automatic hand dryer to dry your hands. Please see information on how to wash your hands properly here: https://www.who.int/gpsc/clean_hands_protection/en/
  • Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Practice respiratory hygiene: make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately and wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth to keep away the possible virus.
  • Make sure the spaces you are in are aired regularly. Keep the windows open for 10 minutes every hour.
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early. Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and respiratory problems, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.
